New York: American scientists have claimed that a huge earthquake upto 9.0 magnitude may hit Bangladesh and its neighbourhood including India.
The researchers have claimed that they have new proof of rising damage building under Bangladesh where two tectonic plates underline the vast delta of the river Ganges and Brahmaputra river.
The scientists guess that at least 140 million people in the region could be affected if the border breaks.
The researchers said that it was an “under-appreciated hazard” and they are not forecasting an imminent great earth quake.
Lead author Michael Steckler, geophysicist at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in the US, said: “Some of us have long suspected this hazard but we did not have the data and a model.”
