Balasore (Odisha): India today successfully test-fired its Guided Pinaka Multi Barrel Rocket System for the second time from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) launch pad complex-III at Chandipur in Odisha.
According to Defence sources, the rocket which was developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted its second successful test at around 12:45 pm (IST) in presence of senior artillery officers from the ITR.
The Pinaka rocket mark-II is equipped with navigation, guidance and control kit, was transformed into a “guided Pinaka”.
The range of the rocket has been improved from 40 km to 70 km with an improved accuracy from 50m to 500m.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar congratulated both Army and DRDO for developing the guided Pinaka in a very short span of time.
DRDO Chairman S Christopher said it is an example of synergy between armed forces and DRDO.
Its first successful test flight was conducted from the same venue on January 12th.
