No more heavy discounts on online shopping, govt to propose policy

A bad news for all the dependents of online shopping and for all those consumers looking for discounted deals online as the government is planning to propose a policy that makes a strong case for Indian online enterprises.

The policy focuses at assurance of a good level of payment to local businesses in the market where nowadays only foreign marketers are investing heavily.

The policy has been proposed to bring an end of ‘deep discounts’ from a specific date for e-consumers in order to regulate e-commerce sector.

The first policy ever for the booming segment has also proposed legislation for online food delivery sites including Zomato, Swiggy, UberEats as well as it will also be for online sites like Paytm, Policy Bazaar and UrbanClap.

The plan is to include multiple aspects in the legislation — from FDI, local storage of data, protecting micro small and medium enterprises to consumer protection and grievance redressal.
