Mumbai: A 10-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur district, Nishtha Sharma became the winner of India’s first edition of the popular children’s singing reality show “The Voice India Kids”.
The show which started with 94 contestants from across India had playback singers Shaan and Neeti Mohan, and music director Shekhar Ravjiani playing mentors to the child artistes.
Near about 18 contestants got eliminated week-after-week through audience votes before the countdown for the finals started.
From total of six finalists, three contestants from Neeti Mohan’s team (Nishtha, Kavya Limaye and Vishwaprasad), two from Shaan Mukherjee’s team (Priyanshi Sharmaand Pooja Insa) and one from Shekhar’s team (Shreya Basu) were in the race for title.
Nishtha after being declared as the winner of the singing reality show, received a cheque of Rs 25,00,000, along with a recording contract from Universal Music. The runners-up Pooja and Kavya got Rs 10,00,000 each.
Nishtha has a family background from Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh which has routes of music and her parents are music teachers and run a music institute, while her elder brother is pursuing B.A. in music.
Nishtha said, “I would sincerely like to thank my coach for mentoring me and guiding me towards victory. My parents stood by me and encouraged my passion for singing. It is a great platform for singers like me to realise our potential and get an opportunity to be mentored by stalwarts from the industry.”
The grand finale of the episode was aired on ‘&TV’ and witnessed Bollywood quotient with actors Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma becoming a part of the show to promote their forthcoming film “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil”.
“The Voice India Season 2” highlighting “Awaaz Se Bada Na Koi” was also announced in the finale episode.
“The Voice India Kids” was the first Indian edition of the popular international singing reality show “Voice”.
